Thank you ! You deserve the Nobel prize. very disappointed in the NEJM for publishing such crapola. Hope you sent them a letter to the editor (as well as The NY Times)
Am I correct that the study is also flawed with regard to compliance in both groups? I believe there was an allowance for noncompliance and to me, it seemed quite high (I can't remember the % but I think it was something near 15-20% non compliance). Also-I didn't see details about what the fasting group was allowed to eat/drink during fasting hours. Did they allow them to drink zero-Calorie flavored drinks, chew gum, etc? As we know, all these things can produce insulin response and affect the fast. I am not convinced these participants were clean fasting. Dr Fung-can you comment?
A friend just told me about the NEJM article and I was disappointed because I had just started reading The Complete Guide to Fasting. What I noticed, however, that the NEJM article made no mention of how TRE vs CR impacts metabolic rates. Dr. Fung, is this something you can comment on?
I also combed through the study and found that it was lacking detail. All it proved is that CR works. It did not disprove that TRE doesn't work, especially in obese people with metabolic issues stemming from regular snacking, yo-yo dieting, or T2 diabetes.
However, I initially jumped on that nearly 30% greater weight loss thing, until a friend of mine skilled in statistics talked me down. That's nearly 30% with the means, but not terribly significant on a case-by-case. I would want to see how it stacks up with non-healthy individuals in a 4 or 6 hour eating window, no snacking.
Gin Stephens has simplified your work along with other scientists such as Dr. Bert Herring in a way that makes it easy for someone with little education or health background to understand.. The world is finally going to start improving and I am forever grateful to our pioneers leading the way!! Time restricted eating and clean fasting has literally changed everything about my health for the better.. 💕
All I know is TRE and you have helped me lose 81 pounds and keep it off. For a 69 year old male I think it works well. Thanks many times over.
Thank you for immediate response to the New York Times article Dr Fung!
I have read your Obesity code book and it was eye opening. Many thanks from Greece!

I tried eating all the food on my OMAD day that I had eaten on non fasting days and I felt absolutely stuffed!
